One of the things I miss about living in the Pacific Northwest is the mixed-use zoning. San Francisco is looking at adopting Portland-style mixed use, meaning no parking spaces for smaller apartment blocks. Should downtowns be built for families? Many mixed-use developments don’t offer large condos/townhomes/apartments but that doesn’t necessarily mean that downtown is no place to raise a child. In Washington D.C., gentrification is coming along slowly. This article describes what may happen when the 11th Street bridge is finished.
